The Matacus Design Contest #3 (from now until solved).

Postby snowlord » Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:47 am

Hello everyone,

I was thinking, is it possible to create a vehicle in AR that is propelled forward by throwing things backwards (this must be called something really simple, but it evades me at the moment)? So I thought, let's wake up (revive?) the design contest to answer this question.

The competition then is:

Make a vehicle that moves by the above method or prove that it is impossible. Rockets, tension or the force are permitted to drive the engine that throws material, but the vehicle must not move directly by rockets, tension or the force.

There will be no time limit. Instead the contest will end when there is a proof for or against the existence of this kind of vehicle.

The winning solution will be approved by the forum users/thread comments.

(Let's see if there's any interest in this :) )

You mean like seanarmadillo's two force rubber wheels that drive along a cloth line, as the in The Mine (and many others of his)?

Or...not?

That's something on the way, but not completely, unless you meant something else than the moving thing on the top?

Because that one is using a cloth that is fastened to a structure. What I mean is that the vehicle should have a load of metal plates or cloth pieces or something which it spews out in one direction, thereby going the other. Much like a rocket works in reality.

Her it is. Not Impressive perhaps, but it works. :)

If you remove the force - it dont move.

If you remove the cloth-fuel - it dont move.

I guess i could use two armadillos as wheels, and get a litle better movement. The fact that no-one has commented my solurion speaks for it self - it simply sucks - though it does the job. Anyone able to do a more stylish solution?

Armadillos as wheels is a really awesome idea!!

Your cloth one does suck, as you suggest, but the metal plate gun is a good illustration - although it would have been nice if your gun was rocket powered instead of force powered.

here I actually have one - I like it my self. With two or more dilloes it would be even more interesting - could be turned in to a contest-thing in some way perhaps :P

Hooray! I agree that the metal plate one is the coolest one!

Do we all agree that Orjan/?rjan/?rjan is the winner?

Oops -forgot to think about it. I was too busy working on work. I have an idea, though - but it should have two armadilloes and I cant get my andrews-editor-made-two-armodillo-level work. Any tricks or hints to how to make it work?

Do you mean that to participate, one needs to use Andrew's editor?

Isn't that a bit limiting?

No, I didnt mean that! - The plan was to make a pre-made level with just some few elements No editor needed to join the contest.
