Yes, welding is officially declared as light in the holy book of ARFC :)

What about exploiting the (lack of) collision detection outside the normal boundries? Still light?

Yes it is still light as long as the armadillo isn't involved.

As an illustration - you may recall Bob's solution to level 3 of B competition #6 had a bit of boundary action; but is still considered light, since the armadillo itself was still colliding appropriately.

The Holy book ?rjan invokes can be found here:
http://armadillo.metaclassofnil.com/for ... .php?t=277

However, there are always 'borderline' cases which need to be addressed individually. For example, in ?rjan's solution to level 2 of the same competition:

The metal bars on the left were all on top of each other at the beginning. The rules clearly state that overlapping endpoints is a 'physics bug', and that using physics bugs in your solution makes it a dark solution.

However, kingofthespill (as the contest host) decided that even though ?rjan's solution did include a physics bug, it didn't really 'use' it, so ?rjan was still eligible for the light medal.

Finally I got 400+!!!

took sooooo much tweaking. If I move *any* of my materials any distance at all, the whole thing will fall apart.

Check the 'competition rules' which are stickied in the A competition forum, to see an explanation of a 'dark' solution. it basically means using 'the force'.
