ARF Contest B #4 Results

Postby darkcatalyst » Sat Sep 09, 2006 7:07 pm

And the results are in...I hope my level frustrated the hell out of all of you. :D

There was a lot of innovation, and wheels seemed to be the way to go. The counterweighting skillz were definately up to par, as I imagined they would be. However, one solution stands out above the rest, and it is that of our winner...

dudiobugtron!!! (28704)

Congrats, a truely ingenious design...and no elastic to boot.

Honorable mention to Orjan (28040) and PeterT (28028) for also breaking the magic 28k+ barrier.

OK watchin PeterT and Dudiobugs wheels, I feel a bit primitive and simple - a wheel is a weel. Absolutely intelligent solutions. And to BFC: ...Im scared. Its dark in here. What the h* was that .."thing" ? Ill go get drunk or something now.

I'm just sad I didn't remember to send it in earlier :(

I had this solution done within 15 minutes and I'm so busy IRL right now that I just plain forgot to send it in.

Hopefully you all take pity on me and award me a dark medal as I've never had one :)

It is such a dirty solution after all.

Ok, BFC, WTF was THAT? Impressive.

Gratulations Dudio, very efficient design. I still think my "catching" mechanism is very elegant though ;)

Have you extracted them directly into your /levels folder? The .zip contains a subfolder, so you may have to move the levels out of it.

Make sure they are not still in their own folder which happened to me.

Nice work everyone, and BFC yours is so dark it's hard to look at!

I second that! Very nice indeed!

Thanks to BFC for motivating me on this one - you could have said that your solution was dark!!!

My awards for this level are as follows:

Insane patience award - PeterT for tweaking that solution, it goes so slowly
"How The Hell did you do that?" Award - luka1222 (see image attached)

I think we'll go for a slightly easier B contest this time around, mostly because I spent all my energy on this one and can't bring myself to test another monster!!

I am not sure, but it seems that with maximum boundaries there is a little more leeway. I'll run some tests :?

(Later)
Yeah, there seems to be normal space (one long metal rod) below the maximum boundaries. It does not have to do with the armadillo sitting on material endnodes like I first thought.

Weird!!!
So, if the level boundary is slightly above the maximum boundary, is there a period of 'no collisions' before a metal-bar worth of collision detection? I think I should do some experimenting myself!
