ARFC B 138 Unlock-it results

Postby mikee7 » Sun May 24, 2009 8:01 am

First of all, excuse my being late...

The contest was pretty active, and tight too, but there can be only one winner and he is:

:lms: Cresta with 2927

:dms: Cresta with 3157

Grats and thanks for all participants.

 arg finding out my opening the gate was the cheapest is hard :D. i always thought that was my problem. but coming from right wasn't the best idea i have to say  . good kob cresta and rob. but ther is still room for improvements ( using my opening) anyway cresta its your turn now :)

edit i dit it :). tweaked it to a 2963L. never thought a score like this is posible :? . again superb job cresta

Mi2: I tried something like your gate in the beginning and it didn't work :? Should have tried again.

Cresta: Very nice. As usual.

Mikee7: been a great contest, thanx.

A host of clever designs well done to Cresta for getting both :dms: and :lms:

A few more tricks have been learned. Can someone tell me, in my solution I used 5 bars attached across nodes at the opening which blows the steel plates away, is this classed as welding, in which case it is Light, or is it Dark :?: :?:

Your solution was not in the results file? But that sounds pretty dark...

Mi2, if you combine your gate, Cresta's catcher and my thrower you would get a 3015 solution. Had a quick look but would require me to mirror cresta's catcher.

 I thought I had sent it in, so here it is. Having seen all the other methods mine could be tweaked a lot higher. I especially like Cresta's method of swinging the Dillo into the portal and through the catcher, I'd imagine that took some fine tweaking to get it to work.

Opening that gate is very dark indeed.

Cresta is just way ahead with "swingy things" And he makes it look so easy.....

I prefer indeed ioncorpse's and overlord's method to swing the dillo, because is cheaper and has multiple functions as well...

I also ashame I won the dark medal because neither Overlord or ioncorpse realized that the launcher could be done with just one bar instead of two.. The rest of their 3149 solution is better than mine..

wow what a great contest ! there actually could be 4 medals :

Rob : best launcher
mi2 : best opening the first stage
Cresta : best opening the second stage
Overlord & ioncorpse : best getting the dillo in

I compared the scores by selecting the different parts with Tab and then read the price in the lower-left corner of the screen (nice trick could be used to find out which part needs improvement ^^).
btw are those standing bars really unedited ? can't believe that one can be so precise they make it _perfectly_ vertical...

Had to see if I could crack that elusive 3000 (stealing from your solutions)
