This level should be hard, and take a long time to get cheap. hopefully it's not too hard or too gimicky. If so, chalk it up to amateurish foolhardiness. I'll be more ready next time.

If objects are placed, not on top of nodes but touching next to them, and that gives them a speed boost in the simulation, is the solution counted as dark?

Exactly what is dark...

the exact line between light and dark is a bit blurry. don't worry too much about a tiny bit of "bumping" from things being too close. it's the sustained bumping which makes perpetual motion machines, or generates energy without rockets, that makes something dark. well, that and "placement smashing," destroying things that should be hard to destroy by placing objects very close to end nodes.

If two of your bits are just close to each other, and just get a little boost of speed from bouncing off each other when simulation starts... i think that's still light.

please don't try to find out exactly where i draw the line, though. it would break me.

ultimately the difference between light and dark is a little subjective, but you should know it when you see it, and so will i.

Me :) I love such levels, first contest that I've won (ARFC A 45 Telegraph by Markman) was similar.
Beware!..

Alright heres what happened. If anyone noticed this thread just got much much smaller. I was talking to McGinge through Private Messages yesterday and he said he wasn't competing in this competition so I sent him my solution so he could see how kick ass it was. Through this he learned something very kewl about how to do the level which he is now telling several people and advertising in this thread.

DON'T DO THAT
