ARFC A XIX Results

Postby JP » Sun Oct 15, 2006 8:03 pm

The results are in. To all who entered, well done!

This contest was easier than I had intended, but it turned out to be a mixed blessing as it gave people who don't normally play a chance to build competitive solutions. The concern over ties turned out to be a moot point as there wasn't a single solution that was tied with another.

The win this time around is credited to Bob with a score of 4880. Congratulations! :D

If you look at my highly unoptimized test solution, you can see what type of solution I was expecting to receive...

Yeah nice one...
Can't believe I didn't think of using metal bars instead of rope.
Duh

Knowing that, 4882 is easily achievable, possibly more.

I don't think you could do any better than 4882, but I've been proven wrong before. Rope and bars cost the same, but the metal made the weight distribution work better in Bob's and MrDo's solutions.

I almost didn't submit my solution because of the 4900+ postings in the contest thread. Where are they? :D

I watched all the other solutions as well, and some were very interesting, but sadly it seems like the number of contestants is dwindling... :(
Seems like I'll have to make a new level - I will hurry.

Perhaps the two things are related.. my 4900 bluff, and the lack of entries.
Personally I don't bother entering unless I think I have a reasonably good solution.

You're kidding, right?!

OK that's the last time I let any bluffs put me off tweaking! Darn you people who claimed 4900+ !!
