ARFC_A_III Results

Allrighty then! The results are in.

After some discussion, we come to the conclusion that Bob (1804) is the light side winner and ?rjan Flatseth (1822) is the dark side winner.

Bobs launcher was great stuff, while ?rjan Flatseth used a little help from the dark side. ?rjans catcher is really worth a study. A combination of the two solutions would have resulted in 1824 light side. :)

BFC said he had a 1800+ light solution, but sent in a 1612 solution.

Yes, that's exactly what I said

Well done everyone!

I knew 1800+ was possible, you just needed a little motivation :)

Now, what will orjan unleash on us next?

EDIT: Actually, I believe Bob to be the light winner. Orjan has a bit of force that moves a plate out of the way. This is clearly a dark solution imo.

Personally I'd say that Orjans solutions do use "The Force" for propulsion - which is not allowed in light constructions according to the rules. The unclear aspect is because he propels another piece of metal with the force, and not the 'dillo itself. What do the other participants think?

[Edit] Then again, it's similar to some welding-based stuff that was allowed in the past - but still, it's very "propulsion-like" IMHO.

Yes, Peter is correct.

I looked at it more closely and Orjan does indeed use the force to open the box.

I had trouble getting back here to amend my post.

So, IMO, Bob is the light winner and Ojran the dark one.

You may be right. I think the rules are maby a bit unclear, or I have just not read them good enough.

Oh, dark - ey? I hoped nobody noticed that litle shady thing  well I dont have a dark medal so I will not slay anybody If I get sentenced ro the dark side  Personally im not sure what to think. The fact that two material pressed together will bounch away from each other is naturally. There is no continuing energy recycling in spooky ways. Yet it is perhaps a litle dark on the side. So what shal it be? a poll perhaps? :o

(I kind of want that dark medal... its so, hmm - dark, and.. strong - yes? we can feel it...mmm. And I dont have any lvl ready for the next contest... mmm)

From the rules:
"To be eligible to win the contest, your solution may not use any bugs in the physics engine. This includes any form of overlapping materials and "the force" that is generated by them in specific configurations."

I think we'll have to agree that the solution is dark, and Bob is the winner, and ?rjan is the dark side winner. What do people think?

WOW! 59 solutions in all. I think any fears that A and B contests would split the userbase are now proven to be unfounded. I looked at most of the solutions already, and will watch the others soon, but sorry I can't comment on many in detail ;)

Still, the variety shows that this was once again a great, unique level. (And Casius, you are quite mad I assure you :!:)

I think it should go to Bob. Placing endpoints in other pieces to get motion is the one thing that's pretty clearly a force solution, even if this one was pretty minor.

If either of you hadn't won before I'd just vote for the new winner, but you have, so I can't just pick the underdog :)

Congratulations ?rjan and Bob :D . Those rock!

I think ?rjan's qualifies as a force solution; it uses a perpetual-motion paddle with a few parts removed, or like a paddle that instantly comes apart.

It looks like we did set a record-over 50 solutions! :o Great work everyone.

Well, it would be nice if it was so easy (and that's why I made the rule so strong in the beginning) but it has since been revised to allow welding again as it just adds so much to the game. (Note that with the above rule any form of welding would be prohibeted as well)

Anyway, I'd say that Orjan's solution sits somewhere in the middle between Joe Sixpack and Yoda, but more on the Master's side. It's clear that the force is not just accidentally generated, but actuall used as an integral part of the design. So I vote dark.

[Edit] Seems that all the "oldies" agree, so I guess I'll upgrade Orjan to 1L 1D and Bob to 2L status. Any strong objections?

Allright, if you agree then let's do it! Personally I think a dark medal will be a better fit for your avatar anyway
