ARFC A 248 : Tips Results

Postby V4nKw15h » Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:30 pm

Now that was what I call a close competition.

The first day was rather quiet with just markmadras submitting his early solutions and me helping him with tips on where he could refine his solution. He got himself over 1000 which I think he was happy with.

But then the real war started.
Rob was my favourite for the win after submitting an early 1048 leaving Cresta's 1040 in his wake. Over the next hours and days Rob kept raising his own score and I thought it was all over.

But in the end Cresta pushed this level to the limit for a great final showdown. Cresta was the only one to find the $48 launcher and I'm not surprised.

Then with 3 minutes to go rob submitted yet another improvement to his score. Was it enough? Hmmm, find out for yourself :)

:lms: ???? hehe

Oh, just one dark solution for Votart with 1070 for the :dms:

That's funny!!! :D

I improved my launcher to 46 (it is very easy) , but I didn't find the will to tweak the rest of the solution, lol!
"What do that extra 2$ mean? " :D :D :D :D

I expected Cresta to build a swing with one metal bar and one metal sheet to reclaim his title of Master of Swingy Things.

I'll hold onto that title with the spinning mega umbrella for now. Cresta can keep his mits off my :cms:

And yeah, Cresta, it reminds me of your last B league where mi2 beat me by $2 because I sat back on a tweakable solution.

I quite like not having a running record of medals. I think it actually helps the community now that it's so small.

We have a good fun spirit to the game at the moment. Nobody takes it too seriously, there is very little complaining about what is light or dark. People laugh when they lose by $2 (hehe). Players help each other to improve their game.

I think we would lose that if the medal meant anything more than a little personal satisfaction.

As another example, if medals were recorded, players wouldn't openly discuss their scores for fear of inspiring someone else to beat them.

When we tried not allowing people to discuss scores the forum was dead so that is not a good thing.

Personally I like just having fun here, throwing down a solution and diliberately trying to inspire someone to beat me.
And who wants to see

1. Cresta 293734929237 :lms: medals
2. GuyWhoWinsWhenCrestaHosts 12 :lms: medals
3. PoorUselessSod 3 :lms: medals
4. etc

Haha.

Heheheh, was sitting on my 1062(knowing this last tweak should be possible) till half an hour before the deadline. Completed it with only 5 minutes left
Very nice launcher Cresta, I'll remenber that one for future use.
It will probably take a few hours before I post the new contest.

Now that was a good contest but in the later stages I could only sit back and watch in amazement as the scores went higher and higher. Had it occured to my poor old brain that building the catcher from the bottom up was much cheaper I could have stayed in the running for a bit longer :) .

The tips I was given made the contest that much more enjoyable and an education. Congratulations to Rob for a superb solution and well done to Cresta for finding that amazing launcher. Finally a big thank you to Vankwish for all the tips. This game is a huge learning curve so any help is most appreciated. :) :) :)

If you wanted to make the ultimate solution you should have included Cresta's launcher. Used the 46$ version wich packs quit a punch so ended up with a 1074 solution 8)
