surely that would be a bit unfair unless everyone who hasn't got the best solution is each told....thats like releasing a midcontest results.

I agree with the idea that this would be unfair...
Well, is obviuos that if you don't receive the mail saying "your is the best score" you don't have it! But that's not the problem, the problem is that this method is even worse than posting scores, because there is not even bluffing...
