AR2ext, a tool to copy lvl2 files to \Levels dir when opened

Postby Overlord » Wed Sep 23, 2009 9:11 pm

Not much remarks about this prog, still I decided to make an AR2 version (not hard afterall).

I managed to make it slightly smaller so the forum would allow me to upload it as an attachment. The instructions and all other information remains the same as for the first version.

I hope you'll find it utterly useful! Btw, right now I'm in a critical situation, need to reinstall my OS to be able to play any DirectX/OpenGL applications, but I promise to get my hands on AR2 and join the fun as soon as possible after I do that.

I'm quite surprised as I didn't have problems with winXP and Vista. Make sure that the path to the \Levels folder is correct and exists, and that ARext.exe resides in the AR2 directory and is not renamed or moved. Also you should have the privilege to write to registry.

Right now I don't have windows 7 to test it on, but after school I will explore windows 7 extension system and see if it has any differences.

EDIT:

A quick fix would be to:

1) remove the extension and delete all the extracted files
2) redownload the package, extract to AR dir again
3) launch ARext, verify that the directory is correct, associate the extension
4) launch any .lvl2 file, if it shows 'Open with', browse to AR2ext.exe and select it and leave a check on "always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
