If I were to choose between ungainly, expensive, and unattractive to describe my current best of $2196 solution I would be very hard pressed to pick just one   .

Are these >$2500 solutions tension based?

There is no added tension in any of my solutions.

I believe we aren't allowed to give any direct details per the contest rules.

If you want ideas I might suggest looking at previous contest levels from both this forum and the eurogamer thread.

That should give you an idea or two :)

Remind me again what tension is??

Over 2600 clean :)

Can't imagine how to make it any cheaper, but I'm sure one of you will.

OT - BFC that solution you came up with for "And Stretch" is amazing 8) . Do do you have a name for the patented gravity powered sling launcher?

I do have a name for what I personally call it. If everyone feels like adopting it then that would be fine with me :)

I call it a GPE launcher. GPE standing for Gravitational Potential Energy. Which, as I'm sure many of you already know, is not exactly an original term. I "stole" it from physics class and is really exactly what that launcher uses in physics terms.

Coincidentally, I came up with the idea for the GPE launcher on this forums #3 challenge. I'm surprised no one tried to use it on "And stretch" :)

There are quite a few new contestants sending in solutions this time around, that's nice to see. Some of them are surprisingly competitive! :D

I believe I goaded Chesspieceface into joining the contest from another forum ;) Aside from that, great to hear there are more solutions coming in!

On the other hand, I need to win one so I can have a week off from obsessing over the contest level :) So yeah, let's just say my solution is $2994, just one single piece of rope. Don't bother sending any more in. You can't win.

Hmm, BFC. I think it is converting kinetic energy to potential spring energy, whether you use gravity or some other means to accelerate the "compressor projectile". It would work at any angle, even upside down, if everything had appropriate momentum before the collision. Perhaps it could be called an impulse sling, impulse being the change in momentum gained from a collision, and sling to separate it from cannons.

2478, now im completly out of more ideas.

To continue the OT discussion briefly,

Impulse sling or GPE sling both seem fine to me. I'm partial to GPE sling as GPE is what is responsible for all the force in the first place. But, really can go either way on it ;)

There are now about 22 hours remaining. Don't forget to send in your solutions!

I will send in my solutions now. I worked on them for hours but now I've had enough. The solutions achieve a nearly identical score (about $2700), but they're quite different in function.

I'm looking forward to seeing all your solutions tomorrow.

I wonder if this could be done with only rubber and elastic (ignoring the budget)...
