AR Forum Contest #5 (06/07/06 - 09/07/06)

Postby PeterT » Thu Jul 06, 2006 5:02 pm

For the 5th contest, I thought that a somewhat easier challenge would be nice, so I made this level inspired by the "CHUTE Shoot" level set by Dave Hartnoll. If you have not yet played that I suggest you do so now. Not just because it will give you ideas for the contest, but also because it's very interesting!

Anyway, here is the level.
I know that the current level in the eurogamer contest is a bit similar, but I had already made and tested this one before I saw it, and the way to an effecient solution is completely different anyway. I have solved the level in 2 very different ways, and I have a third in mind that could be even cheaper. So there should be at least some variety, though it probably won't be as big as in the last contest.

The contest will run until Monday, 10/07/06 18:00 CET (GMT+1).

Rules are as always (see rules thread). Only post scores or general comments. Have fun!

I think it's more like the DownAndUp level than UpsideDown to be honest ... it's an inverted L problem again.

The bidding starts at $2356 :|

I'll raise you $50.

Not sure I'm going to have much more time to work on this one until tomorrow though.

I'd say it's quite different from DownAndUp in that you actually have to build a real supporting structure due to the placement of the anchor points. At least that was the intention - looking through the contests so far we just had lots of shooting, stuff suspended on ropes and lifts.

I see your $50 and re-raise you $50 :)

OK, I agree about the anchor points - I did DownAndUp with only 7 components - more structure required here...

So... Ogre still the man to beat or what? :)

I got a sneaky suspicion that $2500 aint gonna cut it!

Hi everybody. I love this game.
I'm new to this. I look at your solution to the contest #4 and was mighty impressed. I did made a solution to that contest, but it did not come up to yours. Not even close. But i have learned a little.
I have some solutions to this contest. One 2500+ clean solution, and a 2600+ Darth Vader solution, and 2 not so good, but different. Where do i post, or mail it?

Heh, Peter was supposed to post an email address, I guess you're the first to get as far as being ready to submit one :)

Peter! Post an email address!

And I agree with BFC, $2500+ isn't going to win it ;)

At 2402, I'm not going to win any prizes. Unless there's a prize for last place?

Wow, just supporting a stable catcher is costing me $350 or so... I still havent even figured out how to get it up there. :P

Are these >$2500 solutions tension based?
