Design Contest Idea

Postby kingofthespill » Tue Jul 04, 2006 11:31 pm

I had an idea about a different kind of contest. It would be thematic level creation around an specific idea each time. For example if the theme was car or even vehicle, people would design something like "Not the easiest road". Besides common ideas like gears, pulleys, and roller- coasters, we could go into new ideas like crane, wheelbarrow, hammer, etc.

Maybe it could be a longer period, like one or more weeks. It could even be non-competitive, or there must be a way devised to pick a winner.

Any interest?

Hell yes.

From a spectator point of view more than a competitor though :D

I was thinking of mainly of spectator and/or semi-spectator.

Sounds pretty cool.

might have to be a two stage process:
1. Everyone submits their level to the organiser, who posts them anonymously (i.e. no names attached to the levels).
2. some sort of voting/ranking round where you can't vote for yourself (maybe rank your top 5, where your favoutrite gets 5 points and so on).
3. Organiser reveals who made each level and winner is announced.

Right now it appears that interest is low, but someday that might change. For now I think this thread is a good place to keep putting ideas, although I suppose it could move to the custom level forum.

Anyway my idea for this is part proof of concept, part getting feedback on making better levels, and part exploring what can be pulled off. The end result doesn't have to be big. I did a compound pulley which is exactly the kind of thing I was envisioning for this. http://www.armadillorun.com/levels/data/Counterweight.lvl

I have uploaded a hammer level to the game server, so it probably will be up next week. It's a bit odd. Anyway it's and called "Hammering it Out".

I think it's a great idea.

it's probably not the kind of thing you were thinking of, but I thought I'd have a go at implementing some logic gates in the 'dillo world. If I can get AND and XOR gates working, then I could build a half adder...

I wouldn't say that! I have started a theme list that which has everything but the kitchen sink. Gate logic sounds interesting and definitely could be on there.

Theme List:

    Animal
    Cam
    Coil (Possibly very tough)
    Crash
    Dominoes
    Drawbridge
    Elevator
    Factory
    Fireworks
    Gates (either normal or logic)
    Hammer
    Keystone
    Pinball
    Plant
    Ramp
    Ramps
    Rubber Person
    Seesaw
    Unicycle
    Vehicle
    Waves
    Wedge
    Welding
    Wheelbarrow
    Wobbly

WAR OF THE CONTINENTS

Postby ?rjan Flatseth » Tue Jul 25, 2006 5:50 pm

I Have an Idea that I really think could spice up!

Why not have a "war of the continents" i.e Europe against USA (hehe). perhaps other continents are represented too?

The rules could be i.e:

1 The avarage scoor of the 4 best results of a given continent is that continents score.
2 There must be at least 5 players from a continent to join.(this will make sure that the worst solution will not be the ultimate sinner and feel too bad.
3 The normal individual competition goes on as usual.

Please come with opinions! Hope there is interest for this. Mybe other "wars" could be made - like religions etc
 8)
