Suggestion to new rule for bidding and posting scores

Postby ?rjan Flatseth » Tue Mar 13, 2007 12:37 am

I have a new suggestion to a rule for posting scores during A - contests.
The first bid has to be low - perhaps set by the hoster (typical 1500 at a budget of 2000) and then you cant rize the bid with with more than 50 euro before anyone else has overbid you.. The point with this is to avoid someone to take the spirit from everyone at once with a very high bid. The "highscore" will rize more slowly during the contest and make it more exiting and a thrill before all hope is lost.

sounds like another rule that will get talked about and not actually used, sort of a good idea on paper but i dont think we should add any more rules to the forum . things just seem to get more and more complicated around here as to what you can and cant do, i dont know im babbleing now but you get the idea, dont know flip of a coin for me whatever everyone decides
of all the things ive lost i miss my mind the most.

I'm sorry but I don't like this idea. IMHO:
1) Very recently 50$ is a complete abyss that contains the difference between winning solution and many other
2) I (and some another players as I know) usually do bidding for getting estimate for my solution - am I doing too bad and I have to invent something different, or I'm on the leading position and I have to tweak my solution. The new system will kill this capability
3) Also, the bluff will be cancelled with this. But it's too boring to play without bluffing :D

edit:

-If someone says 1747, you can bluff with 1797.
-If last bid is 1800, and you have 1840, you are fre to say 1830+ but not 1860+

I agree with a lot of what Luka is saying - too many rules spoil the broth. ;)

So if we're going to have a rule about bidding, it needs to be a really good one or it's not worth it.

?rjan said that the point of this rule was to stop people making 'monster bids' early on and putting everyone else off. However, in my opinion, his rule won't stop that, because it won't stop people re-bidding higher if their bid has been beaten.

Maybe it is better to go the other way. Remove the rule that says we can not discuss our solutions. That way we might get more discussion, and those of us that haven't got a clue will get one.
I'm a tweakling (any score posted by me is light, unless stated otherwise)

I voted no, but I think this rule could be employed by the contest host in the C league. To keep the bids moving.

It was hard to vote either way. Do you like no-limit texas holdem or pot limit?
