Sorry for the small delay, I had some exams to take care of. But now, the fourth contest - with a level by BFC - is ready. I had brief look at the level and it is quite intriguing.

The contest duration for the previous one worked very well I think, so let's use 96 hours again. You have time until 03/07/06 21:00 to send your solution to BFC - he will post his address soon in this thread.

Regarding rules, as last time, the ones defined in this thread apply.

Here it is, have fun!

As always, posting anything but scores or very general remarks is prohibited until the contest is over.

Well, good luck everyone :) I hope you all enjoy the level. There should be multiple approaches to this one!

Send solutions to: oneBFC@gmail.com

I have solved this level 3 different ways so it is for sure able to be completed within budget.

Have fun!

$730 for my first completion.

I know for sure I can do better, but it's nice to know that the thing's possible

I just completed it for the first time (took quite a bit longer than the previous contest levels!) - $1440. But I didn't even start thinking about doing everything cheaply yet ;)

Yes, hopefully it's not too long as I know a large/long level tends to turn people off.

I have a positive score... I think anyone who achieves even that on this level deserves some sort of praise

My biggest problem so far is that my perfectly tweaked beginning keeps getting thrown off when I add stuff on the other side of the level :(

That's bad, but you know what's worse? If your perfectly tweaked ending gets thrown off each time you tweak the beginning - even if absolutely nothing should have changed physically. So after each change you have to let the level run until the end x times to tweak that part . That's supremely annoying!

Well, at least the level is challenging - speaking of challenge, you should all check out DaveH's level set in the custom levels section. It's really interesting.

Yeah, when I posted my 1440 I thought I could very easily improve on that by several hundred - I no longer think that it's that easy

Finally got it, and its massivly expensive, only $316 left. I know there's room to save, but no where near a couple hundred with my current method.

$818 and this method isn't lending itself to optimization :? .

One interesting thing is I discovered you can take a metal sheet starting completely on one side of a rubber slab and push it through completely to the other side.

My first working solution, no optimizing attempted, has over $1000 remaining. How much more I am not going to tell you
