Armadillo Run on a Mac (Edit:and Linux, see post by Gravity)

Postby snowlord » Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:35 am

Hi,

For all of you Mac owners out there: I am in the process of "switching" (it seems I already am brain washed) and I will give away my Windows machine.

This could become really tough though, since I need my AR fix. I installed Parallels Desktop with Windows XP and tried to run AR. Not unsurprisingly, it was slow as a sleepwalking snail. So it seems that avenue is closed.

Has anyone tried running AR on a Mac with Windows properly installed (with Boot Camp)? Is it playable? Or will I need to get a new PC just for playing AR?

I am now trying to run AR in CrossOver for Mac (it's based on Wine). It's much faster than in Parallels, but most of the graphics don't show. It's supposed to work very well in Wine on Linux, so there is hope, at least.

Can you give me a brief explanation, what programs you need etc... My brother is a mac guy and he is going to try out the AR demo to see if it works.

On the Mac:

1) Download and install the latest beta of "Crossover for Mac" from http://www.codeweavers.com.
2) Download Armadillo Run.
3) Start Crossover.
4) In Crossover, select Configure -> Install software, and choose something like "Install unsupported software".
5) Select the AR installer.
6) Select the options you think are appropriate, ask again if there are any problems.
7) Before running AR, go into Configure -> Manage bottles -> Control Panel -> winecfg -> Graphics and uncheck "Allow the window manager..."
8) Run AR from the Programs menu (if it isn't there, do Configure -> Refresh ...)
9) When AR is running, grab the bottom-right corner and drag it in order to get the best window size. I have Dock hiding on and I make the window full screen.

That should be it!

My bro says he has a power mac and you have an intel mac (or something like that) so it wont work on his. But we appreciate your help anyway.

Trouble with CrossOver

Postby riegel » Mon Nov 27, 2006 8:31 pm

Hello,

I was able to get AR installed using crossover, but when it runs it is like 200 pixels above the window. So to click on a button I hover below it around 200 pixels to click it. I can't see the top 200 pixels. Anyone else have this problem?

I tried all the steps outlined above, but couln't get it to work. What could I be missing.

I've had that problem and first I solved it by running with a virtual screen. You can set that up in the winecfg program mentioned above. But then I got it to work with the described method.

Btw, you should not run AR in full screen mode, use windowed mode. That might be it. It can be a bit hard to fix, because that option might be off screen! :)

There is always a little mismatch between mouse and screen, but I think it's OK.
