Handy app for Armadillo Run levels

Postby Andrew » Tue Sep 05, 2006 6:04 pm

I got sick of the 2 seconds it takes to move Armadillo Run levels to the appropriate directory once they're downloaded, so I spent 2 minutes and made an app to do this for me.
Basically, download this file and run it -- it'll copy itself into the Armadillo Run directory and associate itself with .lvl files. Then from now on, all you need to do is open a .lvl file and it'll be put in the Armadillo Run level directory automatically. Basically opening a file directly from your browser, no further action required.

My folder is "E:\Programme\Armadillo Run"

I believe you can read it from the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Armadillo Run_is1\InstallLocation

At least it's there on my system. Can anyone else check for that key?
Very useful app btw, great idea!

Yep, it can be read from there... I discovered that myself after posting the original version. I'll spend a bit more time on the program and reupload it.

EDIT: New version should work with any directory -- let me know if you have any problems with it.

Fantastic!

A little problem at my computer though: the level names are truncated to 8 characters with the last two being ~1. Like this:

Rube Goldberg's Revenge.lvl is renamed to RUBEGO~1.LVL.

Thanks!

Anyone who downloads and runs an executable file from a forum is a bit silly in my opinion!

It sounds like a pretty useful program though.

whenever I download a level, it automaticely goes to the directory anyway.

Well, I did check Andrew's posting history before running it ;)

Regarding the renaming problem: I haven't experienced that... what's your OS snowlord?

I think I fixed the short filename problem, it was to do with the armadillo run directory having a space in it, and the commandline wasn't encased in quotes. At a guess anyway, seeing as it only happened once or twice on my computer and stopped happening at all after that. If anyone has any further problems, let me know.
Cheers

Oh and regarding downloading an executable off a forum, then yes, you should be dubious. You only have my word that it's not dangerous in any way, and I'm just some dude on a forum. You just have to trust me on that one I guess... same as every time you download software.

Exactly. And after a while you develop a sense for these things. Those who write malicious software just can't avoid a certain kind of language when promoting their software.

Needless to say, Andrew didn't promote his app that way...

Glad you like it. I just edited the first message to remove the warnings about possible problems with the program as they all seem to be fixed as of the last version.
It is indeed damn handy, the 10 seconds or so required to move the file manually really annoyed me :)

New version

Postby Andrew » Sun Oct 01, 2006 3:41 pm

I just discovered IE horribly screws up the filenames if you use my program (same as it always does when downloading files).
If anyone is still unfortunate enough to use the pile of crap otherwise known as internet explorer, then you should download the latest version as it fixes this problem -- filenames are converted back as they should be.
