Well I made my avatar by cheating (it's not a screenshot of the game, it's a picture of the earth with some armadillo lines pasted on to it), but you can change the colour of the armadillo in-game by following the instructions here:

If you want it to look like the earth in-game you have to be pretty cool at drawing or photo manipulation.
