Number of users............??????

Anybody else noticed that, at the bottom of the index the number of registered users increases more or less every day, but the name of the last registered user remains the same for about a week?

I'm not sure about the clearness of the mechanism..................

I'm Guessing that there a bunch of attempted sign-ups by spambots which are counted as 'registered users', but then get stopped before they can get their name on the front page.
