Level editor testers required

Postby Andrew » Sat Oct 07, 2006 6:57 pm

Right well as I've alluded to on the forums, I'm in the process of making an external level editor. This is basically like the built in one but with extra features like
Making items as long as you want, no length limit
    Multiple armadillos
    Timers greater than 60 seconds
Tension greater than 100% each way
    Changing the armadillo/exit size
Setting exact parameters manually, ie x and y coordinates, tension and timer length
Adding text to a level using any material.
Duplication, ie being able to make a level and duplicate it as many times as you like

plus probably other stuff which I've forgotten or haven't implemented yet.

Note that this doesn't work with solution files, it's only for creating levels at this stage.
It's in a reasonably good working state but there are known issues plus functionality still to come... but I need testers! So if you like testing software then let me know via a private message...

I'd be happy to help testing it. Will you release the source as well? In what language are you writing it?

It's written in Delphi, I'm not going to release the source at this stage but maybe later.
I should have the first test version ready this afternoon for everyone that has sent me a PM.

Yeah and I'm using an old version, Delphi 7
Works for me! And absolutely no dependencies whatsoever, no bloated .NET download or anything stupid.

Anyway testers have been sent the first test version, enjoy!

OK well, a good few people have the editor now, yet I've heard back from exactly 0 people.
Feedback anyone?

I'd say it's very useful, especially the straighten tool, however the add text function is annoying and pointless... also it would help if you could watch the armadillo run and not just edit it (in the editor), but that would probably be very very hard to build into it...

It works just fine, if I would point out some stuff that I didnt like it would be:

- When scroll zooming , the zoom does not center on the mouse pointer.

Nishimaster: the add text tool isn't pointless, and I don't see how it's annoying. It definitely could be more configurable, that's for sure
As for making the whole simulation, well if I was going to do that, I'd write my own whole game! which would take a lot longer than this project.
It'll definitely never happen, most other things are possible though.

Stigern, yes I know, it'll get fixed.

Thanks for the feedback. There's a slightly newer build up at the download location that fixes a few things. I'll work on it more soon.

Adding text is a very cool tool. I would love it!

One other thing besides the zoom problem, it's very hard to get two points to connect while in the editor, and it's kinda frustrating. I loe it though! Nice job! Maybe you could add some more fonts?
