I haven't got to try this yet, but doing it the light way, as dec10 would say it, will be massively difficult.

So, here's a potential spoiler:
Something I noticed when I first started competing, is that the pros could find ways to build solid plates that spat out on the "wrong" side.
In other words, a catcher could be made to shoot downwards, perhaps held by ropes, which saves an awful lot of trouble threading clever catchers through the hole.

I never discovered how they did it though. Something about zooming in very close, and repositioning the ends, and even whether you went left to right or right to left.
You just have to keep on trying, building and editing any way you can think of, until it works.
It's kinda like the Indian Rope Trick. But not. If you know what I mean. :D

Well - that meant I had to try something !

I have 2 ideas. but the first has gone on forever, and I have to say I can't find time or fiddle-ability for the second.

So now, M'luds - a thing I haven't seen before you may all like to pass judgement on.
Because of the positioning of the portals, a low-dropping Dillo will trigger 'Game failed'.
However, all DIllos succeed in passing the portal.

Is that success or failure?

Meanwhile, by tweaking which owed more to red wine than logic I have a working (?) solution but its unbelievably sensitive so I have no intention of trying to improve it.
[and it's too low a score for markman's final twiddle)

To answer your question on the fail thing ,yes its a fail in my opinion .because its possible to pass the level without failing .

Sorry I've been distracted all week.... haven't even had a chance to build a solution yet.

As for dec10's "fail", I remember a previous challenge that had this issue.
Of dillos passing so far out of the playing area that a "level failed" message appears.
On that occasion, a solution was valid if the dillos completed the level as intended. If the dillos all portalled away as expected, the solution was accepted. The build area was very small, so the dillos did not have to travel far to trigger the fail.

The game itself applies the failure before the successful completion, so it does not register the success. But for the purposes of the challenge, the limits at which dillos are deemed to have ventured "too far" are artificial, unpredictable, and unseen. That the dillos can still return to the portals to complete the level, highlights how arbitrary those limits are.
So personally, I feel that any solution that successfully portals the dillos away is a valid solution to our challenges.

I think I agree with bythelee. If all the dillo's vanish, I'll consider it a win despite it "failing" according to the game. We do make our own rules here, and the level presents enough issues as it is :)

I'm also sorry because I've also been distracted lately. I have had a fair bit on my plate and my brain doesn't want to show me how to solve both this level or my issues irl... :P

So sorry mark_man but I don't have an insentive for you to get a better solution

Finally hitting the challenge hard. And hard it is.... no solution yet, but I'm getting close.

As for the "level failed" validity, I'm seeing that warning come up when the dillos are barely into the lower half of the portal. It is thus possible to trigger the warning even when the dillos have never gone beyond the portal limits. I think it would be extremely harsh to disqualify any solution for triggering the "level failed" extremity warning in this particular challenge.

Things were a bit stricter back in the day and it seems intentional to me ,but it is up to the op to decide and we have that decision :D .I will not need to alter my attempt eater way (spoiler)cheaper to do it the none fail way   .
Update score 2121+

Ah! Just got back to this.
'Fail' is only a matter of interest, really - but nice to see the conversation.
I don't think my original quickie is going to threaten anybody's scores!
I'm afraid I'm not going to have time to do a proper one, although I do fancy my clockwork idea.

OK, so I've got a solution.
But rope is rather pricey, isn't it?
at 12xx, it's not even close to threatening the 1991+ nor the 2121+ update scores.

Was there any comment in the original competition about "level failed" problems?
