Welcome to the 341st AR2 A contest: 003_Cascade

This is a repeat of the third AR2 A league challenge, but please do not examine and/or copy any solutions from the original challenge. Because, where's the challenge in that?
Besides, Version 2.1.3 presently in use, means the same solution is not guaranteed to work.

In the first two challenges to date, we have seen one that failed completely, and the second beaten by a better solution this time around. In other words, copying the original solution is 0/2 wins in these challenge repeats.


Cascade looks like another fairly straightforward challenge. The AR2 A league (back then) looks like it was intended to be a totally "non-dark" game. As such, even overlapping end nodes of parts was enough to be called "dark", and the contest rules talked about a special award for a "light" solution. For example, the use of "jackhammers" to break any pre-built components (to release the one stuck dillo in this challenge, for example) was prohibited, but I think it meant only the "initial interference" builds, and does not include the "falling under gravity piledriver" version. I guess that over time, the impracticality of policing that dark/light rule resulted in it being abandoned.

This time around, anything goes, and the winner will be the most economical solution, like always. Beware the price changes.

Oh, and gravity has been increased to 102%
That's because Ioncorpse always wanted "G" in high school physics to be 10.0, and not the 9.8m/s2 we always had to use for calculations. Fortunately AR2 gave him the power to make the Dillo universe as he wanted it to be.... :lol:



AR2 Version 2.1.3 Beta is used, make sure you use the correct version.

Ah. I just completed my first POC, and was thinking it's tougher than it looks.
Not tough to solve. Quite easy to solve, but with rope at $60 per three segments, and bars at $50, it isn't easy to do it cheaply.


Also, I've just realised I'll be out Thursday night, until 11.00pm or so. So, I was planning to give an extra day. Only to see someone has already solved it.

QUESTION: Who prefers the Thursday finish, with a late results posting, versus a Friday 8.00pm closing?

Any finish you like for me and the prices add a lot to this level I did two different solutions before I realised and had to start over lol

I'm sorry. I know I write too much, and recent personal problems have disrupted my usual filters that cut down the waffle, but the information and warnings were there from the start.... :twisted:

Ioncorpse is proving yet again why he is such a master of the innocent-looking, yet impossibly maddeningly frustratingly difficult optimisation.
It's so simple. Have two dillos blocking other dillos' portals, by obstructing and trashing their catchers because the "pass through" materials are hideously expensive.



This is already getting too close to my limit for comfort:

Changed to Friday finish. And can be even later, with Mark_man away. Might give the rest of us a chance to beat his score.... :lol:

Now knocking on the door of my upper limit:

I can see where the expensive bit is, but haven't a clue how to make it better. Actually, not true. I do have a clue. Just lack the skills to make it happen. :(
