AR2 A 272 Ferris Wheel Results

Good news! The dillos got off the ferris wheel safely.
Some interesting variations on catchers and rotation mechanisms, and ways to get the dillos out of their baskets.

There was perhaps only one competitive strategy - to spin the wheel.
But, Arunion came up with some marvellous rubber-powered creations.
And I built the leverage variant I had originally envisioned as POC3, just to show what else could have been done.

Anyway, results are:

1st place, scoring 1706, is Mark_man. Congratulations.

Not 2nd, scoring 1670, was the first tweak of the original POC, which also didn't come 2nd with 1586. I was genuinely surprised (and pleased) to see you guys having so much trouble.

2nd, scoring 1576, is Rob.

3rd, unfortunately not making it three in a row for a rubber-powered victory, is Arunion with 1344.

Thanks for playing, guys.

The fun part about not winning is that you can compete in the next

I was sceptical about this level at first but it turned out a fun exercise :D

Excellent solutions! :D Tried several times for rotation, but I've not got the technique for the ways you guys solve them ^^

You echo my sentiments and fears exactly. My greatest worry was that it was just too damn hard to get anything working, risking killing all interest. The subdued entry suggests that was a factor, but I'm glad you had fun with it in the end. The problem was certainly "deeper" than it first looked.

We were just building pulley counterweights, using the ferris wheel hub as the ready made pulley. Rob went around the extreme outside, making it more difficult with the floppy basket spokes, but he had much better leverage. Mark_man and POCs used the inner hub, realising that rope connectors could easily escape from between the dillo basket spokes. The catcher was key, though, and I was relieved to see that Mark_man managed a free-swinging hanger where Rob and I went for a, well, dunno what to call it. Slatting harvester turbine?

I had always hoped to use the snap-through option of the rope-supported basket struts, because it provided a ready-made means to lift the bottom dillos into the portal. POC3 was massively satisfying to build, even it proved totally uncompetitive. But the rubber-powered contraptions remain super-special. I tried to build something like them too, and failed miserably. It seems we all have individual strengths!
