My three methods are very far from being equal, and the best one allows me to say:

1666+ :twisted:

and express a bit of alarm that I'll run out of bidding headroom long before the contest end draws near.......

I thought the slowdown was because of the time still to go before the close. But perhaps not.
(PS Andrew, all three of my methods beat Rob's bid - I'm sure you can do it too. :wink:
