AR2 198 I Ski results

Well, nice work guys... there's a bit of controversy though, dec10 goes through one set of flags then back up through them again...
I wasn't going to allow this, but then I thought, it'd probably be allowed in a real slalom race, if you could bend the laws of physics to actually do it.
So congratulations dec10!

Results:
First: Dec10 with 1602
Second: Votart SIlak with 1590
Third: KuzyaHG with 1554

Very nice! You soundly beat the next best score, without any controversy either.

I had always wanted to have a go at Ski, because it looked like the sort of challenge I really enjoy.

Waited a while, so that I didn't remember how everyone else did it. And found time at last to have a go.

My first attempt scored 1624, including one penalty for missing one gate.
Good enough to beat the winner, but not to beat Ioncorpse's non-entered 1666 solution.

I really wanted to pass through all of the gates, though. And went for a swing!
I have always wanted to use a swing in a solution, and here it works beautifully.
I'm proud of the simple release trigger. Even the "redundant" positioning bar is used as the brake at the next gate.

Then I discovered a better trampoline. Quite unintuitive, as it uses a steel bar instead of a rope, so it should be less springy. The system has to be really slack - it won't work if it's tight. Also, the cloth has to be quite offset, so the dillo almost falls off the side.
This system seems to apply much more force to the side of the dillo, and not just upwards. This gives him the sideways push needed to get across some of the gaps.

With no penalties, "swingthing" scored 1680. And no controversy, either.
Then I tweaked it for 1692. :D
1712 seemed possible, but I couldn't get it to work.

Maybe my dillo was called Tarzan.....
