I had been trying to raise my bid to 1500+ for some days now, but as you've seen, the forum was royally busted since Thursday.

I did email the regulars earlier today (Saturday) with an update.

Peter Thoman seems to have fixed it, while Andrew was pruning out the spammers and their posts in case we needed to move it. Maybe we still will? Things certainly FEEL quicker.

Maybe the competition end date needs to change? Also, not sure yet if PMs are working again. They'll need to, for submissions. I'll test that now with my latest tweak.

Oh, and 1500+

EDIT: PMs seem to be working again too. At least, my tweak attached to the PM I sent to Rob went off as usual.

With the added bonus of no spammers, and no spam posts cluttering us up.
Check out the number of users in the statistics at the very bottom of the board index page (just 634 - that was 87000+ last week)

At the moment new registrations are not permitted. It's temporary while we think of a new way to keep the floodgates closed. Or consider moving to Andrew's place.
But it means the user list is stable, and we're not flooded with spam.

Indeed... I'm glad to see my "delete spammer" script worked. I left it running overnight... deleting 32 spammers at a time -- too much more and the server didn't like it.
Anyway the posts database has gone from many GB to.... a few MB. Crazy really. Things should be much more manageable now.
I can't top the bidding though...
