AR2 A 248 Thingy(Results )

Postby mark_man » Sun May 05, 2013 8:43 pm

The results are in and the winner is
Votart Silak with 1900
second is bythelee with 1890
third is KuzyaHG with 1862
I only managed to tweak 2 more out of the winning entry
Thanks everyone for giving it a try .
We had 5 separate contestants this week which is fantastic :)

Congratulations Votart,

I had a feeling my launcher was too expensive.
It was shockingly easy to adapt my 1890 result to a 1900 with a slight variant of your launcher. I didn't even have to touch the catcher!

It also proved possible to break the "lid" with only one bar (looking at 1910), but the dillo just fails to escape.

Your wish is my command. :D
Actually, I went one better, too!

I had been trying a "dynamic breaker" like the 1910 working result, but didn't go from the left side, because it delayed the fracture too much. A slower launch can still get there, if the rapidly spinning bar can get back to "lift" the lid a little and delay it closing.
Added a final "Rob-tech" launcher tweak to save another $10.

Oh, and I started from Mark_man's 1892 solution, 'cos getting the catcher to work and stay intact was MUCH harder than rebuilding the launcher part. It did need a tiny catcher tweak as the first solution that got the dillo into the portal didn't keep him in there for the 5 seconds needed. 2nd tweak got it though. :D

So, is this the ultimate solution at 1922?

I feel like my fire's been lit again.... :D

A real team effort to get that 1922 result. Everybody take a bow!
Votart's lid breaker, Mark_man's breaker development of my single bar variant, and his big catcher tweak, plus Rob's launcher tricks to get the dillo out of the box.....

Just shows what's possible when we put our heads together!

Hey Ioncorpse! Good to see you're still around too. When are you going to amaze us all with another brilliant solution?

Oh, I do have a possible challenge to post, but it's still being tweaked. I'm trying to make sure it's a good one this time.....
I'll put it up Tuesday afternoon (GMT) if Votart isn't ready for his honour.

If you are the host and you post the results it's a zip file containing a folder with the results. Usually we post a zip file with just the results without them being in a folder. It makes it easier to extract them to the right folder.

When you use Winrar to extract the file, under "advanced" it has an option "do not extract paths".
It's possible that way to get them to the right directory, but yes the better solution is don't put them in a directory in the first place.
And if you're going to use rar, you're losing a huge part of the advantage by not making it "solid". It's only a few kb but it'll make it literally a quarter of the size if there are a number of entries in the file. Remember that tweak I told you about earlier?
Anyway, it's not a big deal...
I have a level to post if necessary. Seeing as I'm terrible at playing it might be better that way?
