AR2 A 246 HeretoThere Results

Postby bythelee » Fri Apr 26, 2013 8:31 pm

This was a challenge I had built a long time ago, but suspected it might be too basic. And then, to make it even worse, I shifted the dillo a bit more to the left just before posting. Originally he came down over the leftmost anchor, but just to the left of it, making trampolines and swings very difficult. Of course, the new position made one of those options fairly straightforward, but I didn't see it, because the original POC concept still worked just fine.
I soooo wished I had left it as it was. I apologise for the "lack" of challenge. :(

Only two competitors submitted entries.......

SketchyGalore went for a simple rubber launcher to traverse most of the distance, and bounce to the portal. An altogether very competent solution, and at 1666, much closer to the winner than last week. I said I'd have a tweak to show other options, and got it to 1702. But the rubber punt is expensive, when the falling dillo can provide the means to get across.

The winner, with 1882, is Rob, with a perfectly timed swing at the left anchor. One little trapeze bounce, and he arrives at an exquisitely crafted portal platform. Nicely done.

There was no lack of challenge, just lack of competitors  I actually liked this level a lot and I'm rather proud of my catcher :D

New one will be up as soon as I come up with a good idea for a level.

Nice one Rob!
I had a solution to submit, made entirely by my partner in crime Tim, just came on to do it now but I'm too late!
Needless to say, it wasn't the winner.

How nice to see such interest after all. :D

Feel free to post Tim's solution anyway, Andrew - no need to feel shy or outclassed by Rob's masterpiece
(Or just tell us the score.....Sketchy would love to beat someone after just two weeks of AR  )

Mark_man's first go is virtually identical to the first POC I made, with tiny catcher detail changes. And I love his simple catcher for the final try. At 1842, I'm also fairly pleased with how close such different solutions were.
(Any "normal" person would have needed a bit more structure to Rob's portal catcher, narrowing the gap...)

And here's the original challenge:
The dillo comes down much closer to the anchor. I've tried, and failed, to build a variety of swings. They all fail, either because the timing seems impossible, or because the structure is too weak to cope. Maybe it needs a small "nudger launcher" to move the dillo to a swing at anchor no. 2?
Rob can have a go while he twiddles thumbs during the next challenge....

I'm inclined to think this version would have been a launcher win - Mark_man's 1842 is the benchmark to beat, as it's entirely feasible to rebuild it.

That version would result in 1874. A strategically placed piece of cloth under the dillo is enough to get the dillo to shift enough to the left to make my original solution possible. It was an awfull tweak so I don´t think I´ll do it again

 as easy as that, eh?
I guess that's using a bit of skydiving, and air resistance.
I thought perhaps a two metal plate nudger to bump the dillo to the right, and have a swing at the second anchor instead.

Thanks for having a go, anyway!
