Now that's what I call an A league!

Quick to solve, but lots of different ways.

Nice one mark,

1900+ :lms:

Thanks Vankwish.

This one is off to a good start but the bid has gone up a bit tooooooo quick, not much chance for the less experienced player to get a look in, Rob started nice and low and then :? . Maybe I will end this tomorrow evening, time will tell :D My POC was just 1818 :(

Personally I thought it was an ideal A league.

Within the 90 minutes that I can usually spare at the weekends, I was able to produce a solution that I thought at least had a chance, while testing out quite a few different other ideas also.

Final solution submitted.

This is great for A league, but where in recent contests new people might have been discouraged by the complexity of the levels they might now give up early because the scores have gone up so fast...

Or they might appreciate looking for 1900+ instead of wasting their time tweaking an 1850 only to find out on the last day it was dominated.

It's always difficult to know unless new players (if they are reading) speak up and tell us.

I think this may be a good time to seriously consider a rule to limit the bid size during the first couple of days of a contest. I would suggest $20 in the first 24 hours and no more than two bids each. As long as the first bid goes in low (which I suggest the host should fix) this will make it impossible for the bid to get too high too fast.

I would then suggest a maximum bid of $40 at two bids per day until the last 24 hours of the contest.

We have frequently had debates over the bidding going too fast, these simple rules will stop it for good :D .

I remember when I first found this forum I downloaded some contests. By the time I had a solution I liked scores were well above what I thought was possible :? My first post on this forum was when I made a solution and came back to the forum to see I could actually raise the bet.

I agree completely with Rob, perhaps Dave would like to comment as our newest player.

Vankwish, that's fair comment but I would be surprised if a less experienced player would be able to achieve 1900+. There are other people out there playing this, the level was downloaded 10 times. I guess they all have their reasons for not submitting there solutions or putting in a bid but the high speed bidding that happened in this contest will certainly not encourage newcomers to join in on-line. Raising the bid sooooo fast achieves absolutely nothing other than bringing the contest to an early finish, so IMHO it should be stopped.

I've received four solutions so far and they are all very different, just missing Rob's.

Unless anybody needs more time I can end this contest tonight :D

I will open a new topic for this debate and create a poll.
